Leading the Way in Natural Enzymes and Probiotics Development
Company History
In 1957, Specialty Enzymes & Biochemicals Co. (SEB) pioneered the production of papain, a proteolytic enzyme derived from papaya. Since then, the company has become a global leader in enzyme production and applications. SEB’s GMP facilities employ the most advanced solid state and submerged fermentation technologies—producing more than 200 enzymes for 25 different industries in 30 countries. SEB offers a full spectrum of enzymes derived from natural and non-GMO sources—plant, fungal, bacterial and animal. To meet an ever-increasing demand for its products, the company recently expanded its manufacturing capacity with a new 50,000 sq. foot facility in Indore, India.
SEB has also expanded its range of products to include probiotics (like Lactobacillus sporogenes, a spore-bearing probiotic that is resistant to the low pH of the stomach). Quality blends that support digestion, enhance nutrition for athletes, as well as their recovery from injury have made SEB a world leader in the nutracuetical industry.
Company Statement
According to Mike Smith, SEB’s sales and marketing manager, even with so much potential, the industry still has challenges. “Supplements are promoted in magazines, convenience stores, mailing lists, internet, cable TV, mass market and traditional health food stores. Competition is greater than ever,” he said. “To complicate things, there seems to be more and more negative press about supplements. Yet, consumers keep buying. They want to be thinner, have more energy, be sexier and stave off the aging process. The reality is the market will continue to grow because the demand is there.”
In Smith’s analysis he found products that are trademarked, patented and which are scientifically proven will ultimately anchor the industry and drive its growth. In this regard, SEB is truly a leader in the field.
“Our research and development team is consistently focused on new application development,” Smith added. “Our goal is not only to remain a leader in enzyme and probiotic development, but also to help our clients become leaders in their fields.”
